Valentine’s Day is just a few days away…can you feel the love? OMG, that cliché is so totally cheesy! But seriously now, this day is one of my favorite holidays for a million reasons. At the top of my list is the obvious one: LOVE. Of course, I don’t just wait for this one day of the year to express my love to my kiddos, husband, and the flock of family and friends my heart goes thump for. But, it IS the one day in the year that I get to go all out without the risk of looking like a nut. (Well actually, the descriptive word “nut” has been used within the other 364 days of the year by said family and friends when describing me, so I guess it’s all one’s prerogative at this point).
What is Valentine’s Day?
Valentines Day! Wait for it…wait for it….It’s like Super Bowl Sunday! Yep- I said it. Valentine’s Day is the equivalent to Super Bowl Sunday. Some of us have a bigger stake in the game, while others are still waiting on the side lines. There are always a few rooting and cheering in the bleachers while others are just there for the food. Some are still analyzing their opponent while others are busy scoring points right and left. I’m the kind of Valentine’s Day girl who is so excited for this day that I begin tailgating days before.
My Game Plan
With a game plan in place I begin meal prep right away. The menu is full and requires complex strategies and tactics. This year I’ll start the morning by making heart-shaped breakfast pancakes with a fresh berry sauce and homemade whipped cream. Then I’ll pop a little note tied to some candy and slip it into my kids’ backpack (and husband’s briefcase). I’ll prepare our family’s favorite dinner, Eggplant Parmesan (I can’t wait to share that post with you), a loaf of homemade artisan bread and an antipasto chopped salad. I’ll end the night with their favorite little dessert, chocolate molten mini cakes with fresh berries. The cake is firm on the edges but has a soft melted center that oozes with love. I’ll sprinkle a little shaped heart with confectioners sugar on each one for decoration and maybe throw on a few heart-shaped candied sprinkles. (I’ll post these, too). After dinner Mike and I will give our kiddos a little something- nothing big, just an I Love You gift. I’ll hang out with Mike and maybe we’ll watch a movie or play cards (we love Gin Rummy and we play for back massages. Winner takes all. But, on this night I’ll let him win…Ha! I can see him reading this and laughing out loud right now. I rarely ever win. He counts cards and I can’t keep up).
But Really…What Will I Wear?
Just like St. Patrick’s Day where you have to wear green to keep from getting pinched, on Valentines Day you must wear something red or pink. No one’s going to pinch you if you don’t, but It’s just good celebratory practice. I found this casual shirt that I absolutely fell in love with the moment I laid my eyes on it. Of course, it has hearts all over it and I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearts. It’s by Velvet Heart and you can find it at Von Maur. Made with a soft woven rayon, this button-up blouse has rolled-tab sleeve cuffs, making it super cute. I paired it with AG Jeans that I purchased from Nordstrom.
Whatever your game plan is on Valentine’s Day, I wish you lots of love. I hope this post has inspired you to come up with your own strategy. Game on and happy Valentine’s Day!
