You won’t ever buy bread again after you make this crazy simple homemade bread. Friends, there are only 4 ingredients and one of them is water! The other three ingredients…flour, salt, and yeast. The best part is that the directions require very little handling. The hardest part is that you have to wait at least 6 hours for it to rise before you can begin baking it. Any one can do this. Follow along!
4 Ingredients & An Oven
- 1 1/2 cups of warm water (I like for my water to hover around 110 degrees)
- 3 cups of flour
- 1 tsp. instant fast acting yeast
- 1 tsp. salt
Dump it all in a bowl and mix with a wooden spoon (maybe a minute at the very most) till it’s combined. Don’t over mix! It will be a perfect little mess, but that’s what you want!
Are You Ready For The Hardest Part?
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp dish towel and set aside for at least 6 hours! The dough will rise and begin to look bubbly. Let it rest anywhere between 6-24 hours before moving onto the next step!!! Don’t touch it and/or don’t lift the plastic or dish towel off the bowl. Leave it alone!
Below is what it looks like after 6 hours, bubbly and smooth.
Flour It Up!
On your counter, lay out either plastic wrap, wax paper or parchment paper and dust it up with a good amount of flour. Now, roll out your ball of dough and flour it up! Don’t do anything else but cover the ball with flour. No kneading! Let it rest for another 30 minutes. Pre heat oven to 450 degrees!
Ready For Bake-Off
With the oven set at 450 degrees your ball of dough is ready to bake. Using a knife, I like to score my loaf with either an X or a slash. It makes it look prettier and more “baker-official”. Pick up your ball of dough using only the paper or plastic wrap the dough is sitting on and dump it onto your nonstick sprayed baking dish. Bake (covered) for 30 minutes. Then, remove foil cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden.
Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
I can bet this won’t be your last time making this yummy bread. It’s a winner! Enjoy.
